Mournful Congregation is beyond doom metal or any superfluous tags given to them. They create music that simultaneously describes the infinite abyss and holographic wing of a fly, the macro and microcosm.
I referenced the archangel Michael, an image that I've always loved. The inherent meaning of Michael concerns the balance of human good and evil, petty ideas within the frame of existence that Mournful Congregation is able to describe. My version of Michael embraces the evil serpent rather than slay it, and though he still wields a sword, it's with a solemn resignation. Ezekiel's valley of dry bones stretches into the distance and the angel hovers above.
